Training for Business Excellence

The Training for Business Excellence programme offers a range of courses to help grow and develop your small business or help those considering starting a business. It has been funded by the Leader4 programme with places subsidised for eligible micro businesses (less than 10 full time employees) within the Local Action Group area which covers North Devon and Torridge but excludes the six central wards that make up Barnstaple town (Pilton, Yeo Valley, Forches & Whiddon Valley, Newport, Longbridge and Central Town). Other businesses are welcome to attend the courses subject to availability but will be charged at the full cost.

FACE UP TO FACEBOOK

Date: Tuesday 22 May 2012 and Tuesday 17 July 2012

Time: 10am-12pm

Location: Braunton

This session will tackle the issue once you have a Facebook page such as content creation, encouraging sharing, check in, advertising, sponsored stories and using Facebook insights. The next step for those who have completed the Intro to Social Media course.

TWEET LOUDER WITH TWITTER

Date: Tuesday 22 May 2012 and Tuesday 17 July 2012

Time: 1pm-3pm

Location: Braunton

The session will look at managing your Twitter account, scheduling Tweets, use of Hash tags, Lists, Promoted Tweets, and ways to monitor and evaluate Twitter success. It will also review account settings and profiles to ensure you have the best Twitter presence possible. The next step for those who have completed the Intro to Social Media course or for those who have their Twitter account already set up.

SALES - THE EASY WAY

Ideal for both new sales people or non sales staff that sometimes have contact with clients/customers. Learn about the process of selling and the part in the process you play. EVEN MORE SOCIAL MEDIA (ADVANCED)

Date: Tuesday 19 June 2012

Time: 9.30am-4.30pm

Location: Braunton

A one day hands-on workshop for businesses who wish to maximise their social media setup to enhance using social media as an online marketing customer engagement resource tool. You will look at how to get more out of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and You Tube. It is ideal for those who need to further improve the strategic benefit to their business and want to introduce other social media platforms to enhance their online presence. It will also look at how to track what it is working for your business to allow you to continuously extend and improve your online marketing campaigns.

Pre-requisites - Ideal where delegates are active on social media and are looking for an advanced social media course. You should meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • On Facebook - have an active Facebook page (at least 25 fans)
  • On Twitter - have an active Twitter profile (at least 50 followers)
  • On LinkedIn - have a completed profile (at least 50 connections)

SHOW OFF AND SELL MORE (CREATIVE SECTOR)

Date: Wednesday 20 June 2012

This seminar will take you through the whole process of selling at events and shows. From choosing the right shows through designing your stands and displays, how to sell to customers right through to follow up and after sales it will include practical checklists and advice. Jerry Bix has more than 20 years of experience selling at events of all sizes, from huge events such as the Country Living Show and International Music Fairs to village charity events and local markets.

BUSINESS START UP WORKSHOP 

Date: Thursday 21 June 2012 and Tuesday 17 July 2012

Time: 10am-4pm

This one day workshop is aimed at those looking to start a business and gives you the opportunity to explore the pros and cons of self employment. The session then goes on to look at developing your idea, conducting market research, looking at the finances, dealing with tax and national insurance, business structure and legalities and your plan for finding customers. This lively, interactive workshop is run by an accredited business adviser. Choose from two dates.

BUSINESS START UP - INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS

Date and times to be confirmed on booking

Up to two hours follow up session to the Business Start Up workshop or a stand alone session with an accredited business advisor. The session will allow you to discuss your individual business ideas in private and ask any questions you may have. The session offers support for your first steps in self employment.

Mervyn sells his award winning Pies at a wide range of events and festivals across the region and nationally as well as online and wholesale to the trade. MARKETING SHORT CUTS

Definition of Marketing: "Something I do, but I know I could probably do better!"

This training session is ideally suited to active business people who are looking for new ideas, tools and techniques to get more from their existing customers as well as to win new customers. This marketing course does not cover any marketing theory instead it focuses on a vital few marketing activities which can be taken from the course and implemented quickly to help drive more customer engagement and demand:

• Structure your approach to marketing ensuring that your marketing ideas get implemented, tracked and monitored
• Profiling your customers to help understand your target audience
• Getting more from your existing customers
• How to use free online tools such as the Google Keyword tool to acquire new customers
